Morons!!!!

to anyone out their reading this who thinks they know Jack about sword fighting and they do not fence or do something based on sword fighting. I am here to inform you that you are WRONG!!!! Foil's are based on one of the most fast paced types of sword fighting. claymore's, and broadswords are slow by comparison. why you ask? because those are primarily slashing weapons and a rapier is a very light weight thrusting weapon, and any fencer who can't land a touch before someone swings a broadsword needs to retire, because a lunge should take less than 1 sec. so all the people in my 4th block class. I would own you in a sword fight. end of discussion.

Tournament

going to make this blog more oriented to the whole fencing team and track the season with it however it's still my blog about me my life and my take and would do very little to impress on people the amazingness of this sport if i just cut out all the emotion so don't count on that happening it's still the blog of me and my life.

which brings me to why I'm posting coach Floyd has convinced me to go to a tournament next Saturday where I will in all likelyhood get my ass handed to me. should be fun right?

Changes in Procedure

at open house yesterday I found out about several changes that will be made in the upcoming fencing season.

1) no more challenges, instead were going to have a tournament where everyone fences everyone and the ones who have the highest score will be varsity then after that JV and if there are enough fencers novice. I don't like this, I think it takes away some of the initiative to stay on your A game and it gives no second chance to people who might not make it from the get go with only four opening on varsity it doesn't seem fair to give people only one chance, on the other hand it will make the team's easier to keep track of.

2) practice is going to run until 6 this year (no objection)

3) Austin, Kevin, and Bronwin will be giving individual lessons to varsity who will then be giving lessons to everyone else. I think it's a good plan. Austin and Kevin are good at picking up on all kinds of details, although I'm not sure about Bronwin but we'll see. Also this will be a good way to improve the skill of our JV teems which are a long way from varsity level. realistically they are on par with most schools varsity but that is a sign of the other schools need to improve not our JV teams skill.

now then starting Monday I'm gonna go to East Lyme for Fencing practice. two reasons first I am determined to be on varsity. I am not interested in the substitute spot or in JV. second and almost as important I want to get an idea of what East Lyme's new varsity squad is going to be like. this is a blank slate for them and by our best estimates that leaves them in some deep $#!+. but I want to be sure, East Lyme has been to much trouble in the past in basically every sport for us to underestimate them now.

Cross Roads

I keep running into cross roads lately.

I've been talking with my Uncle who keeps forcing me to challenge my religious beliefs. in a good way, I'm learning a lot about the faith that before I would just try to ignore. answering questions i was afraid to ask but the answers are not what I expected. They don't fill me with anger or rebellion. They are simple but they fit and they don't contradict and it's kinda calming.

I'm reading Fahrenheit 451, which talks about books being replaced by the instant gratification of images and sounds even if those images and sounds are completely lacking in quality. that has me questioning how good manga really are even though many are just comic books for some time now I have asserted that many or at least some are just as good as any novel from the respective genre. Fahrenheit 451 has me questioning the accuracy of that statement.

feels like all I'm doing lately is questioning myself.

football

our school football team is really good but i'm not a football fan, and seeing as the record number of spectators for our fencing meets is 6 and i'm jelouse of the fact that they can fill the bleachers. i dont feel all that inclined to go watch. not that my not being their would matter to anyone. sigh a boycot works better with lots of people =P

the state of the world

They say it is up to my generation to fix the world. They are just procrastinating because they will be dead before it matters. But so will most of my generation. So with their example for us to follow what makes them think my generation can do any better? If they actually cared they would not leave it for my generation. I intend to do what I can but that will not be everyones response, and there is no way to know if those who will be in a position to help will care.
